What is sustainable supply chain management?

Definition

Supply chain management is the entire process of designing, manufacturing, and distributing products from raw materials through to final sale. Supply chain management incorporates all aspects of the production, distribution, and marketing processes and involves a variety of stakeholders including suppliers, manufacturers, retailers, government regulators, buyers, and others. The current level of supply chain management applied in some industries has become unsustainable. This has led to a need for sustainable supply chain management practices which are focused on reducing waste or negative impact on the environment. Sustainable supply chain management benefits both companies and society as a whole.
